For Immediate Release McGuinty Government Supports Ontario's Public Libraries Hastings Highlands — The McGuinty government is continuing to support public libraries through the Library Strategic Development Fund. The Ministry of Culture supports innovation in the public library sector through this fund. In 2007-2008, eighteen libraries or library organizations are receiving $578,016 through this program. The LSDF strategically invests in projects that enhance the provincial library system as a whole or serve as models for other libraries. LSDF grants support a wide range of initiatives that contribute to the cultural and economic vitality of our communities and help Ontarians develop the creativity, knowledge and skills they need to succeed in Ontario’s new innovative economy. “Libraries provide the resources we need to excel in school, business and life. This new funding will build on the library’s efforts to promote literacy and lifelong learning. I am pleased to announce that Hastings Highlands Township Public Library will be receiving $38,704 to develop an Audio Service Program” said Leona Dombrowsky, MPP Prince Edward-Hastings. The Audio Service Program will promote broader literacy interests for print and literacy challenged individuals by providing access to audio recordings. The project is a model of collaboration and partnership among five libraries, Community Care North and the CNIB. – 30 – For Information: Julie Andrews-Jotham
