McGuinty government invests in better patient care
Lennox & Addington County General Hospital to receive $540,000 for diagnostic medical equipment

NAPANEE - The McGuinty government is improving patient care by investing $540,000 for new and modern medical equipment at Lennox & Addington County General Hospital, Leona Dombrowsky, MPP announced today.

“Our government is absolutely committed to providing quality care and better access through state-of-the-art medical and diagnostic equipment,” said Dombrowsky. “This investment will mean that the residents of Lennox & Addington will have better access to the equipment they need, and the care they deserve.”

The funding is part of the government’s $340-million investment, announced today, to upgrade and increase diagnostic and medical equipment in hospitals and long-term care homes across the province. This year’s investment is the single largest investment in diagnostic and medical equipment ever in Ontario and Canada.

“Patients require the very best care, whether they are in hospitals or long-term care homes,” Health Minister George Smitherman said. “We are modernizing our diagnostic and medical equipment to improve the care patients are receiving, and also reduce the time they have to wait to receive that care.”

Last week, the minister announced more than $120 million to increase the number of MRI/CT exams, cardiac catheterization diagnostic procedures and cancer radiation treatments through more modern diagnostic and treatment equipment.

Today’s announcement is part of the McGuinty government’s comprehensive plan to improve health care in Ontario. It’s a plan that includes reducing wait times for key procedures, creating Family Health Teams, increasing the number of doctors and nurses, and investing in community-based health care in order to ease the pressure on hospitals and deliver care where patients need it most — closer to home.
