in central Hastings Better access to health care for thousands of Ontarians MADOC The McGuinty government is improving access to health care in central Hastings with the creation of a new Family Health Team, Leona Dombrowsky, MPP for Hastings-Frontenac-Lennox & Addington, announced today. We are changing the way health care is delivered in central Hastings by making it more responsive to the needs of the community, said Dombrowsky. Many more people in this area will now have access to primary care and a health team of their own to help keep them healthy and treat them when they get sick. Family Health Teams include doctors, nurse practitioners and other health professionals working together to provide comprehensive health care seven days a week. The central Hastings team will serve patients in the municipalities of Madoc, Centre Hastings, Marmora and Tudor & Cashel. We are extremely pleased to have been selected to receive a Family Health Team, said Mike Sniderhan, chairman of the Central Hastings Sustainable Communities Association. We applaud the McGuinty governments recognition of the need to assist underserviced areas in the provision of primary care. This is a huge step toward a comprehensive care model for our communities. A Family Health Team is exactly what our community needs, said Dombrowsky. This new team will ensure that more people will receive the health care they need closer to home. The Central Hastings Team is one of 50 new Family Health Teams announced this week by the McGuinty government. Todays announcement means the government has reached its goal of creating 150 Family Health Teams by 2007/08. These teams are expected to improve access to health services for more than 2.5 million Ontarians. |
