McGuinty government investing in rural infrastructure MARMORA — An official ceremony today marked the completion of the Ackerman and Bronson Bridge replacements. Daryl Kramp, MP for Prince Edward–Hastings; Leona Dombrowsky, Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and MPP for Prince Edward–Hastings; and Terry Clemens, Reeve for the Municipality of Marmora and Lake, are pleased to see this important Canada-Ontario Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (COMRIF) project come to fruition. The project involved replacing both structures to provide full highway loading and installing approved railing systems. The Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario each committed up to $309,833 to the project. The Municipality of Marmora and Lake committed the balance of the project’s total eligible cost of $929,500. “The McGuinty government is pleased to have been a partner in replacing these important bridges in Marmora and Lake, to provide a safe way to travel for residents in our community,” said Minister Dombrowsky. “Our support for this project confirms our commitment to ensuring that Ontarians can depend on modern infrastructure.” “This project involved the replacement of two of our municipality’s highest priorities on our Bridge Needs Plan and eliminates the load limit restrictions placed previously at these locations,” said Terry Clemens, Reeve of the Municipality of Marmora and Lake. “This project will allow for the safe crossing of all vehicles at these locations for many years to come. We would like to thank the provincial and federal governments for their significant financial contributions to the project which made this project possible.” Under the five-year, $900-million COMRIF program, the governments of Canada and Ontario are working together with the Association of Municipalities of Ontario and local partners to respond to local needs through infrastructure upgrades to provide clean, safe drinking water, better sewage systems, improved waste management processes, safer local roads and bridges, as well as other health and safety priorities.
