The government's infrastructure investments will support job creation and economic growth.
McGuinty government supporting local infrastructure priorities

BELLEVILLE — The McGuinty government announced today that it is moving forward on a new $300-million initiative – one that will help communities in Prince Edward-Hastings build safer local roads and bridges, ensure cleaner, safer water, develop better waste management systems, and upgrade sports, recreation and community centres, among many more local infrastructure projects.

This commitment, called the Municipal Infrastructure Investment Initiative (MIII), will put $300 million this year into revitalizing the public facilities that make communities across our province attractive places to live, work, and invest.

Every municipality across the province – except the City of Toronto – can now submit applications for funding to this new, one-time provincial program.

This program is great news for building strong and sustainable communities like ours across Ontario. The provincial government wants to support as many projects as possible, as soon as possible. This will allow Ontario residents to benefit from infrastructure improvements in their local communities – all of which have their own needs and priorities for renewing public infrastructure.

Improving municipal infrastructure to meet community needs will also lead to the creation of jobs, enhanced local development and an overall improvement in the quality of life for communities in Prince Edward-Hastings.

The MIII is an application based program, and municipalities will be able to apply for a portion of the $300-million fund until Friday, February 15, 2008. MIII may fund up to 100 per cent of eligible costs and will not require a matching municipal contribution. Funding announcements will be made by March 31, 2008.

This new initiative builds on the success of ReNew Ontario – the Ontario government’s ambitious, $30-billion provincial public infrastructure revitalization plan. As well, MIII complements other provincial investments that support a strong and resilient economy, continued growth and better quality of life in our communities.

Municipalities across the province can obtain more information about this initiative, including access to application forms and the program guidelines, at www.infrastructureontario.ca
