New affordable housing projects going forward

The federal and provincial governments are allocating $2.1 million to help fund three new rental housing projects in Hastings County.

BELLEVILLE —The Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario are allocating $2.1 million to help fund three new rental housing projects in Hastings County under the Canada-Ontario Affordable Housing Program.

“One of the McGuinty government’s fundamental goals is to help provide affordable housing for Ontarians who need it,” said Leona Dombrowsky, MPP for Prince Edward-Hastings.  “This allocation will provide safe, affordable housing to the most vulnerable.”

Dombrowsky joined Daryl Kramp, Member of Parliament for Prince Edward-Hastings, to announce the following projects:

  • $1.26 million for an 18-unit project in Belleville.  The project is sponsored by Springale Development Inc., and the units will be occupied by low-income families and individuals, including people with special needs.

  • $700,000 for a 10-unit project in Bancroft.  The project is sponsored by Ken Papakiriazis, and the units will be occupied by low-income families and individuals, including people with special needs.

  • $140,000 for a two-unit project at 351 Victoria Street in Tweed.  The project is sponsored by 792169 Ontario Inc., and the units will be occupied by low-income families and individuals.

“Our government believes that all Canadians should have access to safe and affordable housing,” said Kramp. “An investment in these projects will help low-income and special-needs families attain this goal.”

The new Canada-Ontario Affordable Housing Program comprises a commitment of $301 million from each of the two senior levels of government.  This initiative highlights the government's commitment to affordable housing that is making a real difference in Ontario's most vulnerable households.
