McGuinty government boosts municipal infrastructure investment BELLEVILLE The McGuinty government is providing municipalities across Ontario with more money to build and repair roads, bridges and other public facilities, Leona Dombrowsky MPP said today. “The government launched the $300-million Municipal Infrastructure Investment Initiative last fall,” said Dombrowsky. “I am pleased our government is investing another $150 million in the program.” The investment will create about 6,700 construction jobs across the province. Everything from cultural attractions to sewer systems is eligible for funding. “Investing in our infrastructure creates jobs, makes us more productive and improves our quality of life,” said Premier Dalton McGuinty. “Together, we are making it easier for parents to get to work, we are giving kids new places to play and we are making sure all families have safe, clean water to drink.” Today’s announcement extends the funding available under the province’s MIII program announced last fall, making a total investment of $450 million available for infrastructure projects under the program. All municipalities except the City of Toronto are eligible for funding. Funding announcements under the MIII will be made by March 31, 2008. |
