McGuinty government supports Belleville waterfront plan “Our government remains committed to investing in the renewal of municipal infrastructure,” said Dombrowsky. “I congratulate the City for putting forward such an excellent proposal and I am very pleased that we are able to support this worthy project.” Dombrowsky announced that City will receive $3,708,000, representing 100 per cent of the project’s cost. The funds will be used to rehabilitate five roads around the Meyers Pier Park. “We are grateful for the provincial government’s support for our waterfront redevelopment plan,” said Mayor Neil Ellis. “This investment will help us resolve numerous problems in this area and transform the Belleville waterfront into a vibrant year round destination for residents and tourists alike.” Municipalities across Prince Edward-Hastings will receive a total of $15.7 million through the Municipal Infrastructure Investment Initiative, a one-time grant program that supports local infrastructure priorities in communities across Ontario. This funding will allow these communities to build, fix or expand their roads, sewers, bridges and other essential local infrastructure in the upcoming construction season. Construction resulting from MIII grants will create thousands of jobs in the long and short term and supports the government’s plan for a strong, resilient economy, continued growth, and a better quality of life in communities across the province. |
