Legislative Page Programme

What is the Legislative Page Programme?
The Legislative Pages are the grade seven and eight students who work in the Legislative Chamber of the Provincial Parliament Buildings in Toronto. They serve a term of duty of four to six weeks and are absent from school during that time. Pages participate in the legislative process, act as messengers in the Legislative Chamber meet with politicians and officials, and learn how the government of our province works from the inside out.

Is every student eligible?
The programme is limited to students who have a minimum scholastic average of 80 per cent or its equivalent, are actively involved in a variety of extra-curricular activities, show an interest in current affairs and get along well with both their peers and adults.

Does everyone get accepted?
Positions for selected students are distributed between boys and girls, and throughout the 103 ridings represented in the Legislature. There are generally hundreds of applications for only a few positions, applicants must be in either grade 7 or 8.

Schooling at the Legislature
Pages receive tutoring in mathematics and legislative process while working at the Legislature. This is, after all, the ideal environment for learning about how laws are made and how we are governed.

How can a student's name be entered into the competition?
Please provide the programme with the student's name, home address, home telephone number, current grade and academic average. An application package will be forwarded to the student's home address.

Applications are evaluated twice yearly—January for the Spring sessions of Parliament, and in July for the Fall session. For consideration in the January selection, applications must be received on or before December 15. For consideration in July, applications must arrive on or before June 15. Please note that grade eight students' applications must be received by December 15 of the year they enter grade eight.

The Legislative Page Programme at Queen's Park is a non-residential programme. Students living outside of commuting distance to Queen's Park will need to secure accommodation in Toronto during their term of duty. For more information please contact:
